When San Jose State anthropology professor Elizabeth Weiss tweeted a picture to celebrate returning to campus in September 2021, it caught the attention of Assemblymember James Ramos, a Democrat from San Bernardino and the Legislature’s first and only Native American member.“So happy to be back with some old friends,” read the caption of Weiss’ tweet, which included a photo of her holding the skull of a Native ancestor in front of boxes of other remains.For Ramos, a member of the San Manuel Indian Reservation’s Serrano/Cahuilla tribe, the caption was an example of the lack of respect for Native history in California. High Surf Warning issued for Thursday along Bay Area coastline

SAN FRANCISCO (KRON) – The National Weather Service has issued a High Surf Warning from 3 a.m. Thursday to 3 a.m. on Friday. The warning is issued for the Central and Northern California coastline.The weather service said conditions may be “deadly.” Possible outcomes could be injuries or drowning.Image: NWS Two rain systems to arrive in Bay Area this week The NWS forecasted large breaking waves of 20 to 26 feet on west and northwest-facing beaches.Potential hazards include large breaking waves, rip currents, sneaker waves, increased coastal run-up, and storm surges. For your safety, the NWS advises the public to avoid coastal jetties and, if possible, avoid the beach completely. According to the NWS, large waves can wash people off jetties and rocks. For people who decide to go to the beach, be hypervigilant about your children and pets' whereabouts and never turn your back on the ocean.

Sterling Park native promoted to Navy rear admiral

Apple filed an emergency motion seeking court permission to begin selling two of its most popular watches again until a final decision on its broader appeal in a bitter patent dispute is decided.The company cut off sales right before the Christmas holiday and in a motion filed Tuesday, Apple said it would suffer “irreparable harm” if previous court orders remain for the two weeks that it said the U.S. International Trade Commission will take to respond to its appeal.Wedbush Securities analyst Dan Ives estimates Apple’s holiday-season sales would be reduced by between $300 million and $400 million.
